Farm Fresh

August 23, 2011

By Brianne Harrison Moore

What could be nicer than spending a warm late-summer evening outside, enjoying a gourmet dinner prepared by a top New Jersey chef, featuring some of the best seasonal produce the state’s farms have to offer? If this sounds like your idea of a perfect evening, you’re in luck this weekend. Hunterdon Land Trust and Stonybrook Meadows Farm are both hosting farm-to-table dinners this Saturday evening, benefiting worthy local causes.

Hunterdon Land Trust is celebrating 15 years of preserving the central New Jersey county’s scenic beauty and environmental and historic resources by hosting a dinner at the Historic Dvoor Farm. Guests can sip on peach sangria and nibble grilled scallops, pulled pork, and watermelon and mozzarella skewers before moving on to a four-course meal prepared by the talented staff at Matt’s Red Rooster Grill. Products from Bobolink Dairy, Comeback Farm, Griggstown Farm, Purely Farm, and Tassot Apiaries will feature into such dishes as chilled borscht, a salad of wood-fired romaine hearts with roasted corn, stuffed chicken breast with grilled local summer vegetables, and a peaches and cream bread pudding. Each course will be served with complimentary local wines.

The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $175 per person and only 50 seats are available, so reserve now! To secure a spot, RSVP to the Hunterdon Land Trust at info@hlta.org or 908.237.4582.

Celebrate food and community at the Farm and Vine Dinner being hosted at Stonybrook Meadows to benefit local educational initiatives. Chef Michelle Fuerst and her team are whipping up a five-course feast that includes a whole roast pig, with each course paired with organic wines from CoolVines in Princeton. Whip up an appetite beforehand by taking a tour of the farm, which offers pasture-raised meats and chemical-free produce.

Tickets are $75 each and must be reserved by Thursday, August 25. This event is only open to guests 21 and older. To purchase tickets or learn more, visit marketdinner.wordpress.com.
