Farm to Fork

July 19, 2011

By Brianne Harrison Moore

Bring your appetite: it’s South Jersey Farm to Fork week! Running through July 23, customers can get a four-course meal at one of 30 participating restaurants for the bargain price of $35 (those looking for a real deal can get four courses for $25 at Corriander and La Esperanza). Not only do you get a great meal for an excellent price, you also get the satisfaction of knowing that you’re supporting local farmers, who will provide many of the ingredients going into the dishes. It’s an excellent chance to get a taste of the season, as you dig into Jersey tomato gazpacho, salmon with locally grown melon salsa, halibut served with sweet Jersey corn, and roasted peaches and blueberry tarts, to name just a few delectable dishes gracing the restaurants’ menus.

If you can’t make it to south Jersey this week, you can still swing by Alba Vineyard on Sunday, July 24 for their Farm to Fork Celebration, starting at 4 p.m. The event, hosted by the vineyard and the Foodshed Alliance, will feature a five-course dinner paired with Alba’s wines, cooked by five chefs from northern New Jersey’s finest restaurants. Guest chefs include Andre de Waal of Andre’s Restaurant and Wine Boutique, Mike Carrino of Restaurant Passionne in Montclair, and James Laird of Restaurant Serenade in Chatham. Naturally, the dishes will be prepared using locally produced food, underlining the Foodshed Alliance’s dedication to building a local food system that sustains both farmers and local residents. Tickets are $125 each and can be purchased at foodshedalliance.org/farm_to_table_event.asp.
