Cool Off

June 3, 2011

By Brianne Harrison Moore

The sweltering heat of the past week gave us all a preview of what’s in store this summer. Just walking down the street left many of us tired and drippy, and any sort of workout was a sweatfest. If you’re at home, it’s no big deal—just turn up the AC or grab a damp paper towel. But when you’re on the move, it’s a whole other story.

I’ve started getting into the habit of keeping some Cool Off towelettes in my purse or gym bag. These nifty little cloths are infused with cooling herbs, botanicals, and essential oils like witch hazel, aloe vera, and chamomile that both cool and soothe the skin. They come in a small package that fits easily into pockets and even tiny purses. When you need it, all you have to do is take the towelette out, shake it, and press it against your neck or forehead or wherever you feel hottest for almost instantaneous relief.

I will admit, the one drawback is the scent. A friend of mine accurately commented that they smell a bit like a Hall’s cough drop. Still, my husband didn’t complain when he used one during his recent graduation ceremony, which saw him sweltering in 90+ degree heat in velvet robes and cap for over an hour. The towelette I tucked into his pocket was the perfect antidote on a hot, hot day.

Cool Off towelettes are available online at,, and A box of 24 packets is $14.99.
