Celebrate Survivors

May 31, 2011

By Brianne Harrison Moore

National Cancers Survivors’ Day is traditionally held the first Sunday in June, but New Jersey is holding many of its events a bit early, on Saturday. Want to enjoy the beautiful weather for a good cause? Join up with one of these fab fundraisers, benefiting cancer patients and celebrating survivors throughout the Garden State.

Hit the shore and join the Conga for Cancer on June 4, starting at noon. The afternoon will feature a conga walk and benefit concert at the Seaside Heights Boardwalk, with all proceeds being donated to the Children’s Hospital at Monmouth. Pop/rock band Roxy’s Rainbows and other musical groups from New Jersey will host the event. For more information, visit myspace.com/congaforcancer.

Also on June 4, Clara Maass Medical Center will host Cancer Survivors’ Day, featuring a boardwalk theme, games, food, music and fun. Clara Maas cancer survivors are invited to bring up to three guests.

On Saturday evening, Tara Weldon and the team at Hot Mess Studio will be throwing a “Show Me Your Pink” cocktail party to benefit Mary’s Place by the Sea, a cancer respite home that provides relaxation for women during and after treatment. The night will feature refreshments and a gift auction. Pink attire is encouraged. For more information, visit hotmessstudio.com.
