Escape the deep winter chill this weekend at the opening of Raw Beauty, an exhibition of sculptures and mixed media works by eight artists that celebrate and explore the strengths and imperfections of the female spirit.

The eight artists, Carol Cole, Hannah Fink, Lesley Haas, Elizabeth Mackie, Donna M. McCullough, Leslie Pontz, Miriam Schaer, and Leo Sewell have exhibited work in such prestigious institutions as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Smithsonian International Gallery, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Tate Modern in London. In their pieces for Raw Beauty, they use methods as diverse as needlework and riveting to create thought-provoking works that explore what it means to be a woman.

The opening reception will be held January 8 from 4-6 p.m. (snow date January 15). A workshop with one of the featured artists, Miriam Schaer, will he held the same day from 10-3 p.m., and a gallery talk will be hosted on January 20 from 5-6:30 p.m. The exhibition will continue through February 26.

Exhibitions are held at the Arts Council of Princeton’s home at the Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, located at 102 Witherspoon St. in Princeton. For more information, call 609.924.8777 or visit
