Holiday Seals

December 17, 2010

By Brianne Harrison

What do you get for the animal-lover who has everything? Why not a seal (seriously!)? A mere $25 donation to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center’s Holiday Seal Adoption will help treat and rehabilitate a stranded seal. In return, your named recipient will be sent a special holiday card announcing the seal adoption. After the seal is cared for and released, the recipient will also receive a seal adoption certificate, a photograph of their seal, and background information on the seal’s stranding and recovery—a true gift that makes a difference!

To adopt, visit mmsc.org or send a check, made payable to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, to: Marine Mammal Stranding Center, Attn: Holiday Seal Adoption, P.O. Box 773, 3625 Brigantine Blvd, Brigantine, NJ 08203.

In other news…

All Star Pet Rescue will be wrapping gifts and showing off some of their adorable adoptables at Barnes & Noble on Raritan Rd. in Clark December 18-23. Get your gifts wrapped for free and pet one of the dogs—it’s been proven to help relieve stress! E-mail allstarpets@comcast.net for more information.

21st Century Storage in Pennsauken is continuing its Pet Food & Supply Drive, benefiting New Jersey Aid for Animals. They’re accepting gift cards to PetSmart or Wal-Mart, old clothes, towels, and sheets. Clean out your linen closet and help some homeless animals stay warm and fed! Njafa.org.

In an interview with theGrio.com, Philadelphia Eagles player Michael Vick, whom you may recall served time for his involvement in a brutal dogfighting ring, says he’d like to own a dog as a pet someday, believing it would be an important step in his rehabilitation. This has sparked quite the online debate, and I’m curious: what do you think about this, readers? Has his involvement with the Humane Society since his release sufficiently rehabilitated him or should the court’s ban on him owning dogs stand? I’d love to hear your opinions. You can watch the whole interview here.
