Chocolate Goes to the Dogs

December 16, 2010

By Jennifer Chaky

What better combination is there for the holidays than charitable causes and chocolate?

Rescue Chocolate was born when founder Sarah Gross decided to join her love of vegan, responsibly traded chocolate and her love of animals. One hundred percent of the net profits of this Brooklyn-based company are donated to animal rescue organizations around the country. Each flavor tells the story of a different cause: “Peanut Butter Pitbull” speaks of the plight of this widely misjudged breed, “The Fix” highlights the importance of spaying and neutering pets, and “Mission Feral Fig” promotes trap-neuter-and release (TNR) programs to eliminate stray cat overpopulation. Rescue Chocolate believes all of the domestic animal problems are fixable, and they deliver the message one candy bar at a time.
