Take a Hike

November 16, 2010

By Brianne Harrison

Fall came a little late this year, but when it arrived, it sure blazed in. If you haven’t had a chance to get out and admire the beautiful foliage, this weekend might be one of your last chances (once those leaves start to go, they go fast!)

The Weis Ecology Center in Ridgewood is leading their last Weis Women’s Hike of the season this Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. The ladies of Weis will lead a moderately strenuous 2-3 mile hike to some of their favorite scenic spots. It’s the perfect chance to get a jump-start on your day and get some exercise and fresh air (and a little extra exercise is always good right before we all indulge at Thanksgiving…). The cost is $5 and pre-registration is required. To register or get more information, call the Weis Ecology Center office at 973.835.2160 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

If you’re looking for something more challenging, you can join the Hike Home for the Holidays hike at Weis on December 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The course covers nine miles and afterwards, hikers can enjoy the Weis Holiday Natural Festival and Bird Seed Sale, which includes food, crafts, gift ideas, and Christmas trees. For more information, call the ecology office.
