Dining for a Cause

November 2, 2010

By Brianne Harrison

Halloween has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get some treats. This weekend, there are plenty of chances to sample gourmet goodies while raising money for good causes.

On Friday, Sickles Market will host its Wine and Cheese Tasting Fundraiser. Sample delicious foods, artisanal cheeses, and premium wines while perusing holiday decorations, enjoying live entertainment from the Holiday Express Band, and joining in the silent auction. Tickets are $125 each and will benefit Holiday Express’s efforts to fill and give out 15,000 gift bags to people in need this holiday season. The event runs from 7-10 p.m. For more information, visit sickleswineandcheese.com.

On Sunday, get “A Taste of the Hills” and raise money for Friends of the Adult Day Center of the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills. Over 35 area restaurants, caterers, and bakeries will be on hand with samples of soup, hors d’oeuvres, salads, entrees, desserts, coffee, and wine for tasting. The event runs from 6-9 p.m. at Fair Winds at Basking Ridge Country Club. Tickets are $75 in advance and $85 at the door. To purchase tickets in advance, call 908.236.6632.

Monday evening, Clara Mass Medical Center Foundation will host its annual fall event, “A Tasteful Experience,” at the Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange. Sample food and beverages from the best local restaurants and purveyors of spirits. Tickets are $95 for the main event, and $150 for a VIP experience. For more information, call 973.450.2277.

Finally, throughout the month of November, the Altamarea Group, owners of Due Mari in New Brunswick and Due Terre in Bernardsville, will be donating a portion of the restaurants’ proceeds to Family Promise, an organization that provides shelter and support services to homeless families. Customers will also have the opportunity to add a tax-free contribution to the organization to their check. Dine out on great food and support a worthy cause!
