Halloween is typically a high point on any kid’s calendar, but that doesn’t mean adults can’t have a little fun as well. Here are some seasonal events that are perfect for the big kids as well as the little ones.

How far can you fling a pumpkin? School groups will be tackling that question October 30 and 31 at the Last Fling Pumpkin Sling at Hensler Farms in Belvidere. The Highlands Tourism Partnership, sponsor of the event, has been encouraging groups of local students to build a device that can sling a pumpkin (adults may compete as well). The teams will gather to compete Halloween weekend to determine whose catapult can fling a pumpkin the furthest. There are plenty of other events for non-competitors to check out or participate in as well, including baking and pumpkin carving contests, a pumpkin patch activity area for kids, hay rides, and tours of the nearby NJ Audubon Skylands Trail and scenic Warren County.  To learn more or enter the Sling, visit

Heaven Hill Farm in Vernon will play host to the 2010 Pumpkin Land Festival, which will wrap up a month and a half’s worth of country-style family entertainment this weekend. Take hayrides to the pick-your-own pumpkin patch, get lost in the hay maze, visit the friendly farm animals, and more. Attendees looking for some thrills should join the Haunted Acres Hayride Friday and Saturday night. Visit for more info.

Tour the Wagner Farm Arboretum by dark during their Brite Nites Halloween Event October 29, 30, and 31. Hundreds of carved pumpkins will light the paths through the Arboretum, and a Haunted House Showcase will give daring visitors a few chills. There will also be a photo booth on site to capture the fun of this family-friendly event. For more information, go to
