October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as many of you probably already know. Whether you’re a survivor, a patient, or just a woman concerned about your health, there are plenty of ways to support the cause this week.

On October 6, BJ’s Wholesale Club in Edison will host a Pink Picnic for the community, featuring a local breast cancer survivor who will share her battle with the disease. Dr. Deborah Toppmeyer from the Cancer Institute of New Jersey will also be on hand to discuss the importance of breast cancer screening. Attendees will receive a complimentary lunch and a gift bag containing specially marked “Pink Ribbon” products, coupons, and information o BJ’s Charitable Foundation’s support of breast cancer research and treatment. The event is from noon to 1 p.m. RSVP online at bjsforpink.com.

As part of its new seminar series, Integrative Healing for Cancer, Englewood Hospital is presenting Gentle Yoga with Mary Ann Gebhardt on October 7 from 2 to 3 p.m. Cancer patients can learn how yoga can promote inner beauty and self-confidence, build strength, support bone health, decrease stress, boost energy, and aid sleep. The seminar is free to all patients, caregivers, and loved ones. For more information, visit englewoodhospital.com.

Burn calories for the cause this Sunday at Peak Performance Fitness and Wellness Center’s Workout for the Cure. The family-oriented event will include a group circuit training workout, a “Support the Cause” Bra Decorating Contest, entertainment, and a silent auction. Proceeds raised at the event will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. To sign up, visit peakperformancewellness.com.

Also on Sunday: the Red Carpet Doggie Gala Supporting Breast Cancer Vaccine Research. Four-legged and two-legged pals can enjoy a doggie playground, face painting, vendors, prizes, games, awards for best dressed dog and best doggie couple, and professional photographs of you and your pet. All proceeds will go directly to breast cancer vaccine research at Cleveland Clinic and Lerner Research institute. Mark your calendars—New Jersey Fashion Week is coming fast. Join emerging designers, celebrities, and fashion insiders at Pleasantdale Château in West Orange October 11 and 12. View the latest fashions, participate in a wine tasting, and peruse the beauty bar. A portion of the ticket sales benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Jersey.
