Family Time

September 28, 2010

By Brianne Harrison

It’s all about families this weekend—keeping them safe and healthy, from birth through childhood to adulthood. Round everyone up and take a trip to one of these family-friendly events throughout the state:

On Friday, expectant mothers can swing by the free Community Holistic Pregnancy and Baby Fair to learn more about holistic, natural approaches to pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood. Attend expert-led workshops on nutrition, chiropractics, breastfeeding, yoga, and ayurveda. Dig into some healthy snacks and check out free massage and pilates demos. The event will be held from 3-7 p.m. at 1425 Broad St. in Clifton. For more information, visit mindfullivingnj.com.

Now that the weather’s cooling, fundraising walks, 5Ks, and family fun runs are cropping up all over, and this weekend there are plenty to choose from. On Saturday is the Harvest Hustle 5K and Kids’ Fun Run in Mendham (mendhamboro.org), and on Sunday you can attend the Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Walk in Ridgewood (Imhwalkforchd.kintera.org/nni), Steeplechase Walk and one-mile fun run in Hillsborough to raise money for the Steeplechase Cancer Center (somersetmedicalcenter.com), Keeping Babies Safe 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk in Basking Ridge (keepingbabiessafe.org/walk), and SAFE in Hunterdon’s Hearts and Soles 5K Race and Family Relay in Clinton (safeinhunterdon.org/5k).

Not in the mood for a race? Take it a little easier at Bedstock! at River Road Park in Bedminster this Saturday. This family-friendly music festival will feature local bands, children’s activities, appearances by special guests, and more. Proceeds from the event will benefit science-based autism treatment. For more information, visit bedstock.org.

With cold and flu season right around the corner, it’s a good time to attend the Children’s Respiratory Wellness Event, which will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. this Sunday at the Respira Salt Wellness Center. Experts will give advice on how to approach respiratory issues such as allergies and asthma. For further information, call 908.665.0333
