Peace Soap

July 30, 2010

By Brianne Harrison

Can a soap change the world? Kiss My Face sure hopes so. The socially conscious beauty company has recently launched Peace Soap, a 100% natural all-purpose pure castile soap that supports Seeds of Peace, an organization that helps develop relationships and leadership skills among young people from regions of conflict.

For anyone purely interested in the beauty aspect—castile soap’s amazing, versatile stuff. Peace Soap comes in four scents—grassy mint, lemongrass clary sage, lavender mandarin, and pomegranate acai. I tried the lavender mandarin—a refreshing scent that works just as well if you’re using it as body wash or washing the floors with it (I did both, and it was fantastic). The soap contains jojoba seeds to help seal in moisture, olive oil to relieve dryness in skin and add shine to hair, orange and lemongrass oils to energize, and lavender oil to relieve stress. It can be used as a shampoo, pet wash, laundry detergent, body wash, and all-purpose household cleaner, to name just a few options. The soap’s simple formulation and lack of chemicals and other harsh ingredients means it’s biodegradable and environmentally friendly.

If you’re the type that likes to give back, as I mentioned, this soap helps support a worthy cause. Ten percent of all profits from Peace Soap sales will go to Seeds of Peace, a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization dedicated to empowering young people from regions of conflict. The organization, which was founded in 1993, aims to help end conflict by providing youth with the leadership skills and interpersonal networks necessary to advance reconciliation and coexistence. Seeds of Peace provides conflict resolution and leadership training at its summer camp in Maine and at programs, conferences, and workshops around the world.

Kiss My Face is currently running a “Pledge for Peace”–for every 10,000 pledges made, KMF will send one camper to the Seeds of Peace summer camp in 2011. Pledges are free; all you have to do is log onto Kiss My Face’s Facebook page or visit Thepledgeforpeace.com and click the “like” button. The campaign runs through September 21, 2010.

Peace Soap is now available at Whole Foods Markets, kissmyface.com, and other stores that sell natural products. It’s available in two sizes—17 oz ($9.99) and 34 oz ($14.99) and I can tell you from experience, it lasts a good long while. Without a doubt, this is worth the investment.
