Bark Fest

May 28, 2010

By Brianne Harrison

Grab a leash, walking shoes, and family members (both furry and non)—it’s time for St. Hubert’s Bark Fest 2010, a celebration of dogs and the people who love them. The June 6 event will feature a dog walk and an outdoor festival, both of which will benefit the homeless animals awaiting adoption in St. Hubert’s shelters.

The day will kick off with a non-competitive stroll through the scenic Upton Pyne Estate. Later on, the festival will feature live music by the Blaire Reinhard Band, demonstrations, canine massages, games for dogs and kids, food, contests and prizes, mobile grooming, pet adoptions, and free coffee and wagon rides (weather permitting).

Walkers who earn the most pledge money will be eligible for prizes, including a limited edition iPod Shuffle, a Tiffany & Co. pendant, and a 21-speed mountain bike!

Events start at 11 a.m. and run to 3. Admission is $15 per person (13 years and older) before June 3; $20 a person after. Dogs are $5 each. You can register or create a fundraising page (collect $150 in pledges and get free admission!) by visiting sthuberts.org.

Can’t make it to the Bark Fest? Ocean County Park in Lakewood is hosting its third annual Doggy Yappy Hour June 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. There’ll be an informal dog walk, giveaways, and demonstrations. For more information, call 1.877.OCPARKS or visit ocean.nj.us/parks/Yappy%20hour.html.
