The Makeup Show

May 11, 2010

By Brianne Harrison

Makeup—the mere word can conjure up a lot of memories and even emotions: watching in awe as your mother expertly swiped on some lipstick prior to going out; frustrating teenage experiments; looks both memorable and regrettable. It’s been around for millennia, but there always seems to be something new to discover about it, whether it be a technique or a product designed to make our lips plumper or our lives easier.

For those who like to stay abreast of the latest developments, The Makeup Show NY 2010 rolls into The Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City Sunday, May 16 and Monday, May 17. Unlike many other trade shows, this one is open to the public—a single-day ticket is $50 and a two-day ticket is $75. For that, you get to browse the offerings of some of the top cosmetics companies in the country, including Dermatologica, JAO, L’Oreal, MAC Cosmetics, M.S. Apothecary, Naked Cosmetics, shu uemura, Smashbox, and many others.

In addition to the exhibits, there will also be seminars offered on both days, some of which are clearly geared towards industry professionals (The Airbrush Bride, Achieving Editorial Beauty, Cult Items for Every Artist’s Kit). Others, however, would be helpful for anyone (Party Proof Makeup, Hollywood’s Red Carpet Trends, Breathe New Life Into Your Skin, Brushes 101, Autumn/Winter 2010 Trends.)

The show will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Tickets can be purchased online at themakeupshow.com/2010/NY/index.html.
