Puppy Prom

April 30, 2010

By Elyse Fetherman

Prom season has arrived, so break out your four-legged friend’s best formal gear for an evening to remember. Whether your companion dons his best canine cummerbund or prances in her prettiest puppy prom gown, this enchanted “Furry Tail Ball” is sure to leave you and your dog begging for more.

Hosted by the Morris Animal Inn on May 5, the second annual Puppy Prom features an evening of fun, food, and philanthropy.

But what’s prom without a little dancing? Grab Fido by the paws and boogie the night away with Beethoven’s ballroom dancing. And for the pups with two left paws, relax during story time as you snack on princess punch and finger foods.

The Puppy Prom also features a canine crowning ceremony, prom photos, and a “Trip to the Shore” after party at the AquaCenter.

In addition to the food and fun, the Morris Animal Inn is encouraging the public and guests to donate gently used dresses, shoes, shawls, evening bags, and jewelry. The collection benefits Becca’s Closet, a charitable organization that provides formal attire to high school students who would not otherwise be able to attend prom/homecoming due to the high cost of these items. As an added incentive, anyone who donates a dress will receive a $50 grooming certificate to be used at Morris Animal Inn’s Grooming Salon. Donations will be accepted April 15-May 5.

The Morris Animal Inn is located at 120 Sands Spring Road in Morristown. Reservations for the Puppy Prom are $49 for the entire day and must be made in advance by calling 973.539.0377 ext. 5. For information, visit

After an evening of dancing, your pup will definitely want to put their paws up. On May 13, kick back, relax, and enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and gourmet doggie treats at St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center’s Dog Tails and Cocktails benefit for homeless animals.

Couples and singles with or without canine escorts are welcome to enjoy an evening of good food, great drinks and even better company. The event also features a silent auction and tricky tray with proceeds benefiting the St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center and its mission to find loving homes for homeless pets.

The event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the terrace of the scenic Red Oak Grille at NJ National Golf Club located at 579 Allen Road in Basking Ridge.

Limit one dog per adult. Space is limited and reservations are required. $35 per person. To register, call 973.377.7094 or visit to learn more.
